Stanley Clarke has obtained “living legend” status during his fifty-plus-year career as a bass virtuoso. He is the first bassist in history to double on acoustic and electric bass with equal ferocity. Also, he became the first jazz-fusion bassist ever to headline tours, playing sell-out shows worldwide.

Clarke has appeared on well over forty-five albums, and his creativity has been recognized and rewarded in every way imaginable. To that end, he was Rolling Stone’s very first Jazzman of the Year. Also, he won Playboy’s Music Award for ten straight years. Further, Bass Player Magazine honored Clarke with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Also, he is a member of Guitar Player Magazine’s “Gallery of Greats.” Finally, the 2011 Montreal Jazz Festival awarded him the highly prestigious Miles Davis Award for his entire body of work. Stanley is part of the permanent collection displayed at the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington D.C.

An accomplished film and TV composer of over seventy projects, his credits include Boyz N The Hood and Romeo Must Die. He also worked on the Tina Turner biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It and The Transporter. Currently, he is scoring the music for the Hulu show Woke. Additionally, he has garnered three Emmy nominations and a BMI Award for his scoring. Clarke is a member of the exclusive Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Clarke’s pandemic work involved producing and participating in his new well-received web series, Stanley Clarke’s Bass Nation. The series premiered in November 2020. Also, Stanley and his wife Sofia established The Stanley Clarke Foundation nearly two decades ago, which offers scholarships to talented young musicians. Furthermore, he believes in giving back to help young musicians hone their skills.
