“raw beauty, an exquisite vulnerability, and a defiant passion… emotional richness” – No Depression

For these special performances, Shelby Lynne will be focusing on her 2007 tribute to Dusty Springfield, Just A Little Lovin’.

It’s a daredevil’s task to take on Dusty’s songs, but Lynne is up for the challenge. Springfield virtually defined blue-eyed country soul in the late 1960s with her expansive and emotive reach. Rolling Stone once called Dusty in Memphis the third most “essential” rock album by a woman. This beautifully restrained collection is performed with power and eloquence, both utterly fresh and nostalgically infused with a Memphis-like spirit. Just a Little Lovin’ became Shelby Lynne’s most successful record, reaching Number 41 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

Shelby says: “Dusty Springfield was a soulful singer. You can’t ever fill her shoes. So I just set out to sing songs we all want to hear again. The road map I followed when cutting these, was the one she made years ago. It was easy. I just sang and let the songs do the work. I’m so glad I did. Dusty inspired it all.”

By the time Lynne won her Best New Artist Grammy, she had already completed six albums and had over a decade of recording experience under her belt. Yet in a way, the award was appropriate, since I Am Shelby Lynne was the album that finally found her taking control of her music, following years of casting about in search of an identity. Lynne’s work ranges from country, blues, Southern soul, roots rock, and Western swing to jazz and adult contemporary pop.

Once Lynne put all the pieces together, she found herself embraced not only by the country mainstream but by rock critics, British audiences, and the alt-country-Americana crowd.

She’s been a rebel on purpose for 32 years with a focus on music, art, and style, never bending to trends.
