“Pavarotti of soul singers” – New York Times

Peabo Bryson stands as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music of the last quarter century. He possesses a beautifully rich, almost operatic voice, celebrated by millions. Also, this two-time Grammy Award-winner has survived and prospered despite the passage of time and changes in popular musical trends.

Moreover, Bryson has produced twenty albums, enjoying an unprecedented, across-the-board level of international success. Also, he became the first artist in music history to top four different charts with separate records.

His multi-talented capabilities as a singer, songwriter and producer have consistently earned him acclaim and recognition. Furthermore, his family, particularly his mother, instilled in him not only a strong work ethic but also a deep love for music. “My mother was a serious music lover. Whenever there was somebody great in town, she’d drag us along to catch their act. I have seen most of the greats of that period – Sam Cooke, Little Richard and even Billie Holiday. Sam Cooke greatly influenced me. His voice had a pure quality – straight from-the-heart.”

As Bryson’s career advanced, the applause grew louder. The New York Times dubbed him the “Pavarotti of soul singers”. His duets with Natalie Cole and Roberta Flack brought him the title “King of Balladeers.” His hit “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” reached Number Ten on the pop charts. Additionally, this became another crossover hit and solidified his mainstream audience. Further, both “Tonight” and “If” secured the Number One spot on the adult contemporary charts.

Two songs for Disney-animated films earned Peabo Grammys. The first was 1991’s “Beauty and the Beast” with Celine Dion, which was a Number One pop hit. Furthermore, Peabo received another Grammy for “A Whole New World (Aladdin’s Theme)” with Regina Belle. Both “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) and “A Whole New World” (1992) won Oscars for “Best Song”.
