The five voices of Nobuntu echo with power and intensity, emanating pure joy while embodying the spirit of the artists’ Zimbabwe home. An all-female a cappella vocal quintet, Nobuntu translates to “mother of kindness” or “mother of humanity” in celebration of the African philosophy ubuntu, which values humanity’s compassion and connectedness. Drawing international acclaim for its inventive worldwide performances, the ensemble’s concerts range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro-jazz to gospel and are accompanied by minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments and organic, authentic dance movements. Recently nominated for Best Musician of the Year at the Zimbabwe International Women Awards, the women of Nobuntu believe that music is an important vehicle for change.
