The Lao Tizer Band featuring Eric Marienthal, Elliott Yamin & Karen Briggs perform in support of their forthcoming album & video release AMPLIFY. The new release is a major evolution for the group. Further, it includes five new original vocals and four new original instrumentals with flavors of jazz, R&B, global and funk.
Joining Lao for the evening are Grammy-winning sax legend Eric Marienthal (Chick Corea, Rippingtons), American Idol star Elliott Yamin, violinist extraordinaire Karen Briggs (Yanni, Stanley Clarke), drum phenom Tony Austin (Kamasi Washington) and Senegalese bassist/producer Cheikh N’Doye (Baaba Maal, Weedie Braimah).
Hailing from Boulder, CO, with a career that now spans nine albums over nearly a quarter of a century, Lao Tizer is the son of hippies with a Russian-Jewish background. The mix of that ethnic family heritage has brought him to a unique place in his artistic life.
Karen Briggs, also known as the “Lady in Red,” is an American violinist. Briggs received the “Lady in Red” moniker while featuring as a soloist on Yanni’s Live at the Acropolis tour. Briggs has performed or collaborated with Dave Grusin, Diana Ross, the Wu Tang Clan, En Vogue, and Chaka Khan.
Vocalist Elliott Yamin launched his recording career following his appearance on American Idol Season Five as a Top Three finalist. His highly anticipated debut album debuted at Number Three on the Billboard album chart. Then, it became the highest-debuting album by an independent artist in SoundScan history.
Saxophonist Eric Marienthal started his professional career in 1980 with New Orleans trumpeter Al Hirt, then became a member of the famed Chick Corea Elektric Band. Eric has performed with Elton John, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharach and more.
