"Ginger possesses some of the sweetest and most clarion pipes in town."
– City Pages
Since its inception in 1926, Black History Month has been a time to commemorate the valuable contributions, achievements and the remarkable history of African Americans. This year, in honor of Black History Month, Ginger Commodore and band have tapped into a musical playlist of several of Minnesota’s noted leaders of color as was shared with The Current, the artists, and songs that inspire them.
You’ll hear playlists from St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, US Representative Ilhan Omar, Minneapolis City Council member Andrea Jenkins and owner of African-inspired Heritage Tea House, Raeisha Williams. They share their Black History Month playlists that include songs that have given them wisdom and made them think, as well as celebrate things they love about black music.
