“a visionary musician & the future of Cuban funk” – NPR Alt Latino

Cimafunk is a twice Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban rockstar. He is tearing up stages across the globe with his nine-piece band from Havana, the Tribe. His name refers to his heritage as a “cimarrón,” Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery. Moreover, it speaks to the essence of his sound. Furthermore, he subverts classical Cuban rhythms with innovative mixes of funk and Afro-Cuban music.

Cimafunk is considered one of today’s great showmen. He became the first Cuban-born artist to play Coachella. The non-stop, action-packed live show won the praise of the likes of Paul McCartney and George Clinton. Moreover, Clinton especially liked the show, and he now refers to Cimafunk as “the next one.”

Cimafunk and the Tribe’s live show is a celebration of groove and an unforgettable sonic and bodily experience. Additionally, they have created out-of-body experiences for crowds at Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, BottleRock, Glastonbury and New Orleans Jazz Festivals. Further, they’ve rocked Newport Jazz, Montreal Jazz, Paleo, Roskilde, Summer Sonic and hundreds of other festivals around the world.

Cimafunk redefines contemporary Cuban music as well as Afro-Latin identity and the fusion of black cultures. The Grammys honored his 2021 album, El Alimento (the nutrient), with a nomination for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. His forthcoming album, Pa’ tu Cuerpa (for your body), is set for an August 2024 release. It includes collaborations with George Clinton, Trombone Shorty, Big Freedia, Monsieur Perine, and Michael Brun.

Recommended for Fans of Celia Cruz, Irakere, Chucho Valdés and Los Van Van.
