The Gamma Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. invites you to a musical tribute to the soul-stirring music of their fraternity brother, Donny Hathaway. The evening features the musical stylings of some of the Twin Cities favorite R&B vocalists including Julius Collins (Dr. Mambo’s Combo), Patty Lacy (Sounds of Blackness), Cornisha Garmon, Jackson Hurst (The Hurst Family), and Lamont Keten, Len Jones, Ro Harrington (all of MFellaz). Musical Director Kathleen Johnson, of “Musicians4Musicians”, “tha Ma Muz,” and “The Greats Gone 2 Soon” Live Music Series, leads an all-star band that includes José James (percussion/sax), Anibal Soares (bass), Todd Burrell (keys), Christian Couch (guitar), Adrian Davis (piano), and Kirk Johnson (drums).
Order dinner and drinks, sing out loud and fall in love all over again to Hathaway’s classic R&B/Soul standards, including “Young, Gifted and Black,” “Little Ghetto Boy,” “I Love You More than You’ll Ever Know,” “Someday We’ll All Be Free,” “A Song For You,” and many other of his solo hits, not to mention those legendary icon duets with Roberta Flack.
