Minnpost and Star Tribune highlighted the Dec 18 show which will have an encore performance Jan 6.
MINNPOST
“One of the greatest trumpeters of his generation – many would say the greatest – Roy Hargrove died in New York on Nov. 2 after years of fighting kidney disease. He had a long and close relationship with the Dakota and performed there often over the years. We lost count long ago of how many times we’d seen him because missing him wasn’t an option. Hargrove was last here in January with his quintet. His death at 49 was a blow to the music, to many of us personally and everyone at the Dakota including club owner Lowell Pickett, who was Hargrove’s true friend. On Tuesday (December 18), area musicians will gather to honor his memory, with Justin Robinson, a longtime member of Hargrove’s quintet, as special guest.” (Pamela Espeland)
STAR TRIBUNE
“The late trumpet great was a frequent guest on the Dakota stage, so it’s a fitting site to consider his legacy. Justin Robinson, Hargrove’s alto sax player, joins this salute by local jazz stars including Debbie Duncan and trumpeters Solomon Parham, Adam Meckler and Omar AbdulKarim.”
