Minneapolis’s once best kept secret didn’t have a chance. Considering that it’s the rising grassroots grown soul powered local sensation Sonny Knight & Lakers. This explosive expressive spot on 8 piece groove savvy coalition has simultaneously & swiftly elicited major praise (from far & near), deservingly sought much attention, enjoyed sizable positive word of mouth & delivered searing hot energized & energizing downright funky live shows.
Something you’ll notice right away at a steamy Sonny Knight & the Lakers show is their obvious insistence on audience participation & directly engaging especially to fill the dance floor. This translates into increased motion & excitement by activating captive fans to listen, dance & otherwise fully experience this wondrous music in the vibrant live setting.
Sonny’s smooth charm & convincing charisma as the frontman & band leader are essential elements for the band’s continued success & rise. He recorded first at age 17 in the mid sixties before serving in the military & then driving trucks for many years. Eventually; Sonny (now in his 60s) realized that the music still within him had to come out. After a shining return to the stage for a reunion of sorts, it wasn’t long before, with the help of friend & now band mate Eric Foss, Sonny Knight & the Lakers were up & running with a driving thriving passion rarely seen in today’s music realm. From party inciting songs to hard hitting soul ballads, this band beams brilliantly appealing to music lovers of all ages.
Last year the band released a soul brimming masterpiece album “I’m Still Here” on (their founding brainchild Eric Foss’s) Secret Stash Records that has resonated wonderfully with both new & existing fans as well as the media & music press. This year, Sonny & the boys have built on that success releasing a mesmerizing great double live LP entitled “Do It Live”. On top of that, the band has been busy touring relentlessly hitting the US & Europe as often as possible with a promising eye on expanding even more into the world. May their presence & building buzz grow.
These shows are the 2nd Annual Holiday residency for SK&TL at this intimately sized hotspot the Dakota. Truly a magnificent romantic destination offering world class music & delicious outstanding food. This will be one of those holiday weekends where celebrating folks won’t just be content to just sit through a show & instead will be inspired to their feet & other body parts ready to move & groove. It must to be stated that I too am a big fan, who incidentally loves to dance.
These fantastically awaited lively festive shows hit at 7pm & 9pm on both Fri. December 18, & Sat, December 19, 2015. Dancing has been proven to be good for you. Come share the joy.
