Brilliant Original Jazz
Fearless trumpeter Kelly Rossum has garnered an international reputation for combining modern improvisations with traditional jazz elements. During his time in Minneapolis, Rossum singlehandedly engineered countless rewarding musical experiences to people of all ages in the Mpls/St. Paul. Creator of the Jazz Studies program at the MacPhail Center for Music, Rossum left Minneapolis to pursue professional trumpet playing in New York. He is currently the Jazz Director at Christopher Newport University in Virginia.
Rossum’s recorded projects have redefined what is new in jazz, and his tireless dedication to outreach projects of all shapes and sizes make him an invaluable resource in the education world. It is difficult to describe his style as anything but unique; combining the traditions of swing, bop and free jazz with the innovations of electronica, ambient and trance music.
