40 years and 25 records after front man Ray Benson founded the band, the sound is still there, while some of the faces have changed. Benson has a knack for finding talent, and the current lineup of the band is a return to Benson’s original concept of Asleep at the Wheel: a revue-style show, with each member bringing something new to the table, making the show more about the collective band.
The Kings of Western Swing took their show to a new level with 2009′s Willie and the Wheel, backing up American music legend Willie Nelson on a book of classic Texas swing. Critics and audiences alike called this one of the finest moments in either artists’ careers.
