Sophia Shorai with Supreme Privacy
Sophia Shorai, vocals
DeVon Grey, keyboards
Sean McPherson, bass
Andy Blessing, drums
This honey-toned vocalist is one of the scene’s best kept secrets.
“There’s been buzz about Sophia Shorai for some time. I think I heard Leigh Kamman rave about her a while back on his radio show The Jazz Image, and Tanner Taylor wants to record with her, and she’s versatile, singing jazz standards and pop tunes and Latin classics … I like Shorai’s voice a lot. It’s very pretty, sometimes little-girl, sometimes breathy, sometimes tough, reminiscent of Stacey Kent but not derivative. She sings a nice mix of standards..” – Pamela Espeland, Bebopified
Supreme Privacy is a jazz band that brings a lot of non-jazz history to their resumes. dVRG and Sean McPherson are members of the live hip-hop group Heiruspecs and Andy Blessing has been playing drums in rock bands around town for a decade. These disparate experiences inform this trio’s take on the jazz and pop songbook, and their love for the music is evident every time they play.
