Desdamona

Desdamona is the premier hip-hop artist in the Twin Cities area, and one of the most recognized and celebrated figures on the local scene. A five-time Minnesota Music Award winner for “Best Spoken Word Artist,” her prominence in the hip-hop community is unrivaled among male and female artists.

Despite the awards she has won, Desdamona decries the competitive spirit that can drag down music communities. To that end, she works extensively in schools and prisons in the region, preaching self-assuredness through her poetry and music. She has organized “B-Girl Be,” a festival held at Intermedia Arts that organizers describe as the only event in the world that brings together female artists from every genre in hip-hop, including deejaying, break dancing, graffitti art and rapping.
