Terrence Hughes CD Release

Pianist Terrence Hughes has been active in the area for over 25 years, mainly doing commercial work and playing with Brazilian ensemble Mandala. He is here celebrating the music of Brazilian piano great Manfredo Fest, who was a fixture in the TC jazz scene for most of the 70’s and 80’s. The CD is titled “Bossa Blues,” and features Manfredo’s son Phillip on guitar. Fest had a special way of playing bossas, with unorthodox progressions and forms, and for this Hughes has enlisted the help of drummer Gordy Knutson, who played with Fest regularly. The rest of the band includes Phillip Fest, guitar; Dave Graf, trombone; Marc Anderson, percussion; Gordy Johnson, bass; and Gordy Knutson, drums.
